What are dental veneers?

How are dental veneers applied?
The first step in placing your dental veneers is to take impressions of your teeth. Usually, the dental specialist uses a metal tray filled with some kind of paste and leaves it in your mouth for about five minutes. Then he or she removes the tray from your mouth. The marks of your teeth are now moulded in the paste.
However, some state-of-the-art dental practices now offer more accurate digital impressions. Digital impressions of your teeth can be used to create a temporary set of veneers to wear while your permanent ceramic veneers are being made. They can also be used to create a photo simulation of what your new smile will look like.
The second step is to choose the exact shade of white that best matches the shade of your teeth. The dentist will advise you on the shade that best suits your smile. To prepare your tooth for the veneer, the front of your tooth will be roughened so that the cement will adhere better.
The dentist may take additional impressions once the tooth surface has been prepared. Cement will be applied to both the back of the veneer and the front of your tooth.
The final step is the final sealing of the veneers. The dentist will use a dental resin to permanently bond the veneers to the surface of your teeth in a single operation using a positioning tray. Finally, your specialist dentist will remove the excess cement from your teeth and gums.

How many appointments are needed?
In general, two appointments of 4 to 5 hours each for a cosmetic treatment are necessary, in case of 8 to 10 visible teeth. The number of teeth that will be treated depends on the width of your smile (count the number of teeth visible when you smile).
