Excellence in the service of your child's smile

Child orthodontics

From what age should you consult?

It is never too early or too late to visit an orthodontist: early orthodontic treatment can start as early as 6 - 8 years of age.

It may be necessary to intervene at this time, so that the current situation does not worsen to the point of damaging the teeth or deflecting jaw growth.

The majority of orthodontic treatments are performed on adolescents between the ages of 9 and 14, however, the stage of dental development is unique to each individual. This is the ideal period when we can benefit from the favourable effect of pronounced craniofacial growth. At this age the wearing of braces is socially acceptable for patients.

The orthodontists at the centre are able to solve all your child's orthodontic problems.

But here are the most frequent cases:

Interceptive treatments: they are fundamental because they allow to limit the evolution of an orthodontic problem in order to obtain a harmonious growth of the craniofacial complex. These treatments use the growth period of the jaws to rectify malformations.

Extraction treatments: in some cases, the size of the teeth is larger than the space available on the arch to accommodate them. Extractions may then be necessary to create enough space.

Thumb/Latch Suction: Thumb or latch suction can affect the development of the jaw and teeth, as well as swallowing and speech functions. Some devices can be used for short periods of time to avoid more strenuous care during adolescence.

How to choose your braces?

Choosing braces is not as simple as it seems. There are a few criteria to consider.

Lingual Orthodontics
Lingual orthodontics is a technique that makes your braces very discreet, since they are located inside your teeth. However, lingual braces can be uncomfortable, especially after they've been fitted. The cost can also be an obstacle, as it's quite high. Treatment lasts between 12 and 24 months.

External metal braces
The most common type of dental appliance is the traditional metal brace. This is the most "visible" of all types of braces, as it consists of "rings", which are small steel elements attached to the outside of the tooth and linked together by a metal bar.

External ceramic braces
Braces placed on teeth can be made of transparent ceramic, which ensures that they do not yellow. Only a few metal wires remain, but the overall effect is almost invisible. The cost is relatively low. Treatment lasts from 3 to 9 months, depending on the correction required.

Removable braces
Invisalign® braces are removable and completely transparent. They must be worn for at least 20 hours a day, and can only be removed for meals.

The removable aligners Invisalign® offer a great comfort compared to the traditional dental appliances with convincing results. Very popular with adults, they are also suitable for children. These transparent removable aligners are used to align the teeth. The duration of the treatment can be longer, in most cases, it is 18 months on average.
